South Korea_🌾 Time Travel in Korea: My Day at the Korean Folk Village (한국민속촌) 🇰🇷

Looking for something beyond skyscrapers and K-pop in Korea?

Let me take you on a journey back in time — to a place where Joseon Dynasty life still lingers in the air.

Welcome to the Korean Folk Village (한국민속촌) — one of the most fascinating cultural attractions I visited in South Korea!

📍 Where Is It?

The Korean Folk Village is located in Yongin, about an hour from Seoul by public transportation. I took the subway to Suwon Station, then hopped on a shuttle bus directly to the village. It was super easy and scenic!

💡 Tip: You can buy a combination ticket that includes the bus and entry. Very convenient.

🏡 What Is the Korean Folk Village?

Think of it as a living museum — a recreated traditional Korean village where everything from architecture to performances is designed to immerse you in old Korea.

There are over 270 traditional houses, including thatched-roof peasant homes, nobleman’s residences, markets, schools, and even a traditional courthouse.

I felt like I was walking through a real village from 200 years ago!

🧙‍♂️ Live Performances & Experiences

The highlight for me was the traditional performances. I watched a thrilling equestrian stunt show, a tightrope performance, and a vibrant farmers’ dance (농악) with drums and colorful costumes.

You can also:

  • Try hanbok (한복) – traditional Korean clothing

  • Make traditional crafts

  • Taste local snacks like hotteok (호떡) and rice cakes (떡)

  • Watch traditional weddings or court rituals

The actors and staff stay in character — they even speak in old-style Korean (don’t worry, signs are in English too!).

🍂 What I Loved Most

What made this place magical was the attention to detail. From the wood-burning kitchens to the clay walls, it didn’t feel like a theme park — it felt authentic. It was peaceful, educational, and perfect for both adults and kids.

I went in autumn, and the changing leaves made everything extra beautiful. But every season offers a different charm.

📸 Photo Spots Galore

Don’t forget your camera — there are countless spots to take incredible photos in hanbok, under tiled roofs, by lotus ponds, or in the pine forests.

The Korean Folk Village was more than a tourist attraction — it was an immersive step into Korean heritage. Whether you're a history buff, a photographer, or just looking to experience something unique, this is a must-visit spot.

If you want to understand the heart of Korea, walk its past — and this is the perfect place to do it.
