South Korea_🐞 Discovering Hidden Gems in Korea: Yeoju Insect Museum (여주곤충박물관)

🧭 Why I Visited an Insect Museum in Korea?

During my spring trip across Gyeonggi Province, I stumbled upon a hidden gem: the Yeoju Insect Museum (여주곤충박물관). As someone who loves discovering off-the-beaten-path experiences, this small but fascinating museum turned out to be one of the most memorable stops of my journey.

🏛️ What Is the Yeoju Insect Museum?

Located in the peaceful city of Yeoju, this museum is dedicated to the colorful and diverse world of insects. It's not just about glass cases and dry facts — the museum is interactive, educational, and surprisingly fun, especially if you're traveling with kids or have an interest in nature.

It was established by a passionate entomologist, and you can feel the love for insects in every corner of the space.

🦋 What You’ll See Inside

Here's what caught my eye the most:

  • Rare and exotic insects from all around the world — beautifully preserved beetles, butterflies, and more.

  • Live insect displays — including stick insects, scorpions, and giant beetles!

  • Hands-on experience zones where you can touch or hold harmless bugs (don’t worry, it’s safe and supervised).

  • Fossil corner featuring ancient insect imprints.

  • Photo zones with giant insect models — perfect for fun selfies!

One of the highlights for me was holding a live stag beetle. It was surprisingly gentle!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Great for Families

There were many Korean families during my visit, and the kids seemed to love it! The staff even offered short educational talks in Korean (though with basic English support). If you're traveling with children, this is a must-stop to break up the usual temple-palace-museum routine.
